The Family That Loves Together

Contributed by site member Jean Fraser

Jean Fraser is the mum of Gilly Fraser who recently graced us with her extraordinary story of the canine loves of her life. Her mum contines the tale below:

I really have not much to add to Gilly's story, except to say that we have been dog lovers all our lives, and have had loads of fun and love with them. I had a beautiful Cavalier Spaniel which Gilly gave me one year at Christmas, he was a little ball of fluff but utterly adorable, I had him for seven years, but unfortunately due to too much interbreeding, by the time he had reached six years old he started taking some sort of fits, and although we did our best with the Vet's help to keep him stable, it was not to be, and he just got worse, and with a very heavy heart I decided that he must be put to sleep -- one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make, but I could see him suffer no longer.

He was the most likeable dog, with not a bad bone in his body, he loved people, especially children, and he was my constant pal, very obedient and really a clean doggie. A few months after he died I was persuaded to take another dog, it did not take much coaxing though, as I hated the house without one, I then got my present dog, a Shih Tzu, who is also a wee character, not as biddible, and much more the boss than Donnie was, but loveble all the same.

He certainly has a mind of his own and loves to get his own way, again I am fortunate in the fact that he loves children and people and loves company, at the moment Gilly is checking out the little Shorkie, as we think she will make an ideal pal for Fraser, I had her for a couple of days on trial, and they really got on very well, but we needed to have a vet check before we decide, so all is looking good, and I think she is going to have a clean bill of health, and hopefully will come here and make her home with Fraser and me.

Aww, brings back memories. We had a little Shih Tzu we loved so much. She was without a doubt the sweetest of our dogs.

You can see where I get my love of dogs from! My Mum has always been a soft touch for animals - and never known to turn one away. I brought home quite a few waifs and strays over the years...

Hi Jean,
I love your post, what makes it a real stand-out is that it goes along with your daughter's! There aren't too many intergenerational postings.

And look at that photo. I am in love!

Miss Mae, as always, your site is lovely.

Hugs,
Regina

What a cute picture, and what a shame about Donnie, it's so hard to have to make that decision to let them go even though we know it's the right one - and how sad that inbreeding causes so many problems.

The love of animals can certainly add to the loving ties in a family . I hope you'e new little doggies will work out and you'll soon be able to bring her home.

So heartbreaking to put a dog down. But try to remember the joy he brought you. That's how I get past losing three over the past six years.

But I'd do it all over again, given the chance.
